Dr. Natalia Shakhova leads the Russia-U.S. Methane Study at the International Arctic Research Center, at the University Alaska Fairbanks and the Pacific Oceanological Institute, Far Eastern Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences. Since 2004, she has been a leader in methane studies on the East Siberian Shelf, with a focus on climate-driven feedbacks. Over the last five years, she has published more than 20 papers including Science magazine (2010) and Nature (2012).
Shakhova is also an author of the SWIPA /AMAP Report-2012 (Trace gases and sub-sea permafrost) and WWF International Arctic Program Report (2009).
Shakhova received her rank of Doctor of Sciences in Marine Geology from P.P.Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of Russian Academy of Sciences in 2010, and Ph.D. in Medical Geography from Orenburg State Medical University in 1993.
